Phainopepia - female
Phainopepia is an unusual name and maybe hard
to pronounce so I wondered if there was a simpler
name for this guy from what sounds like a scientific
name has a Greek meaning. In Greek phainos means
“shining” and peplos means “robe”. The male does
have this beautiful black shining coat or robe and the
red eyes really sets it off. They belong to the silky-fly-
catcher family. Besides insects they like fruit. The
females are much lighter in color but have the same
red eyes and hair comb.
